Friday Night
A Project looking at the common routine of many young British people today.
Working or studying through the week counting down the days until the weekend.
I wanted to explore the social norm 'binge drinking' and document nights out in their true form from my own perspective.
Skins
This was a series of photographs that were inspired by photographer Gavin Watson.
My project was entitled 'identity' and I wanted to explore how skinheads created such a prominent role in society, politics and national identity. Many skins are recognisable from their dress and attitude which was bitter from the Thatcherite era. However, skins also have a huge role in modern day society due to Shane Meadow's 'This is England' and the attitudes are common today as there are also many working class unemployed people at the hands of the government as there were in the 1980s.
50 Photographs
In this brief I had to create 50 photographs that had the exact same composition as each other. I chose a straight line in the middle of every picture. These are some images from the series.
Portia
In contrast to my usual style of work - documentary photography - I explored fashion and styling photography which allowed me to be much more creative and experimental. I wanted the images to have an old fashioned feel which was aided by the hair, make up and styling but it also gave me a chance to refine my images in photoshop as I am more familiar with editing in the darkroom.
Making is Thinking
In this brief I had to choose a piece of typography and also a shape and adapt it compositionally to photographs that I have chosen yet each photograph and composition had to be different from any other. In these two responses I wanted to experiment with how simple type can look effective against an image and also how a shape and type can effect the story of a photograph.
